All that a software engineer in Hyderabad wanted was some Chicken biryani and it ended up costing him Rs 50,000! Yes, you read it right! The victim, a resident of Rahmat Nagar in Jubilee Hills ordered ‘special chicken biryani’ on food delivery app- Zomato on Sunday. But, to his dismay, he found that the order got misplaced and he got ‘sambar rice’ instead. The angry techie searched online for a customer care number to share his grievance. Unfortunately, Zomato doesn’t have a customer care number and what he got was a fake number.

When the unsuspecting techie called up the customer care number, a voice on the other end was quite regretful of his bad experience and promised a refund. The caller then proceeded to ask for his PayTM details and asked the techie to scan a QR code. To his shock, the techie found Rs 50,000 disappearing from his end.

His details were scammed and he was cheated off his money. A complaint was subsequently filed with the Hyderabad Cyber police. Further investigation is going on in the case.

Meanwhile, Zomato’s earlier statement warned users against such theft. "We constantly remind our users via different channels of communication that we do not have a customer care number. Chat and email are our primary channels of care. While we take every effort to ensure customer safety and security, we also urge our esteemed customers to be vigilant and not share their personal or bank account details with anyone," it said.
