Home > News Shots > India newsIn a shocking and disturbing case from Kolkata, a passenger's hand was cut off after the bus in which he was travelling hit a pillar. The victim has been identified as Utpal Karmakar, who was rushed to a nearby hospital by two police constables who were on duty.
As per Times of India (ToI) report, the victim was standing on the footboard of a public bus when his arm got ripped off after it caught in a building pillar as the bus was speeding up in a narrow lane.
This incident shocked commuters on the road who became mute spectators but the courageous injured man carried the severed hand in a plastic bag and walked to the hospital. The arm was in such a bad condition that there was no possibility that it could be reattached, ToI further reported.
Doctors at the hospital stated that, the man was a diabetic that made things worse, so they had to amputate the hand.
Highlighting over the fateful day, police said that the man was travelling on the bus with two of his other relatives when the incident took place. The bus was crowded, so he could only manage to stand on the footboard. The accident happened 800 metres after it left the bus depot.
