The Maharashtra government on Saturday banned the use of plastic in the state. The ban will be imposed on the use, sale, manufacture, storage and distribution of plastic items including one-time use bags, plates and spoons, PET and PETE bottles and thermocol items.
Reportedly Rs 5,000 will be levied as fine for the first offence, Rs 10,000 for the second time and Rs 25,000 after that. A 249-member group has also been introduced to promote the awareness on the ban of plastic to the public.
