Remember the famous Jessica Lal Murder Case? - Killer is Out from Jail, sparks huge Debate on Social media!

The killer of Jessica Lal, who was serving a life term for committing one of the most high- profile crimes in the country has been freed from prison for his “satisfactory jail conduct”. 18 other prisoners too were released from the Jail along with him on Monday. 

Anil Baijal, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor approved this decision which was taken based on recommendation made by a Delhi sentence review board. The board unanimously agreed that Manu Sharma should be freed from jail. 

The 43-year- old has spent over 17 years in jail. His lawyer approached the Delhi High Court in November and told that despite good conduct, his client has been rejected release four times. 

Manu Sharma, the son of former union minister Venod Sharma, was held guilty in 2006 for shooting model Jessica Lal after she refused to serve him a drink on April 30, 1999.

The case sparked nationwide outrage and protests. The movie “No One Killed Jessica “was based on the crime. 

Sabrina Lal, Jessica Lal’s younger sister told NDTV in 2018 that "I truly believe he has been doing good work in jail...it's a load off my chest and I feel at peace with myself.”

"His conviction was closure for me," she added.

However, the release of Jessica Lal’s killer has sparked outrage yet again but this time it was in social media.
