What is a 'Triple Lockdown' ? Kerala's capital goes into a 'Triple Lockdown' from today! Details
Home > News Shots > India newsThe Kerala government has imposed a triple lockdown in its state capital, Thiruvananthapuram from Monday for a week in view of the spike in number of COVID19 cases.
The idea behind the triple lockdown is to break the chain of transmission of the virus. It is a targeted strategy introduced by the government to contain the spread of coronavirus. The first step in this lockdown is to lock the designated area barring movement from inside the city and entry into the city from outside. As a part of the second step, the clusters from where COVID19 cases have been reported will be put under a stricter lockdown. The third step is to take special precautions to put a lock on the houses of the infected persons. This will ensure that the infected person and their primary contacts stay at home, thus avoiding the spread of the virus.
The announcement about the triple lockdown was made by K Surendran, the state’s tourism minister on Monday who said that the district was “sitting on an active volcano” with rising number of COVID cases.
“Triple lockdown will be implemented in the city corporation limit for one week starting from tomorrow. People should not venture out. We need strict restrictions to contain the spread of the virus. During triple lockdown, there will be more restrictions. Only necessary services will be allowed,” Surendran was quoted as saying by news agency PTI on Sunday.
“There will be no public transportation. Only medical other essential shops and hospitals will function. People can go to medical shops with a proper prescription,” he added.
The state has reported 5,427 Covid-19 cases and 27 people have succumbed to the disease so far.
