Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday submitted the letter of his resignation to governor Vajubhai Vala after the Congress fell behind the BJP in the state Assembly elections. BJP was leading in 106 seats, while Congress was leading in 77 seats. Another major player in Karnataka JD-S was leading in 37 seats.
Following the blow, the Congress offered unconditional support to JD-S to form the government in the state in its bid to keep the BJP out of power. JD-S chief HD Deve Gowda’s son Kumaraswamy said that his party accepted the Congress’ offer. He has also reportedly written to the governor seeking appointment to stake claim to form the government.
Responding to the understanding between Congress and JD-S, BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa said that Congress is trying to form the government in Karnataka through ‘backdoor’. He is also expected to meet the governor shortly and stake claim to form the government.
