IPS officer helps a desperate mother of a special child

A desperate mother from Chembur, Mumbai on April 04 requested camel milk for her three-and-a-half-year-old autistic son, through Twitter during the lockdown. Her plea was retweeted and noticed by an Odisha based IPS officer, who helped her acquire the stock.

Neha Kumari, the pleader tagged Prime Minister Modi in her tweet which read, “@narendramodi Sir I have a 3.5 yrs old child suffering from autism and severe food allergies. He survives on Camel Milk and limited qty of pulses. When lockdown started I didn’t have enough camel milk to last this long. Help me get Camel Milk or its powder from Sadri (Rajasthan).”

IPS officer Arun Bothra, who is currently posted at Odisha, was alerted on Twitter. “Since I am an IPS officer, many are of the view that I will be able to help out. I contacted the lady, who said her family usually stocks up on camel milk for two to three months. She got emotional saying they barely had enough left for three to four days and her child will collapse without the milk,” he told TOI. Through his contact, the family was able to acquire 400 grams of camel milk powder that was picked up from a supplier in Andheri. However, it was scarce and the family required more.

Hence, Bothra further posted the need for more, in Whatsapp groups in Rajasthan and learnt that a train was leaving from Ludhiana and would pass through Pali-Marwad-Jodhpur before reaching Mumbai. Since he requested, the commercial department in Ajmer and the vendor agreed to halt at Falna, where the train usually does not halt. The train delivered 20 kg of camel milk powder and 20 litres of camel milk and the stock was transported to Mumbai from where the family collected it.
