A group of five Kashmiris, three women and two men, was allegedly thrashed by residents of Sunlight colony in south-east Delhi on Thursday night, say reports. A purported video of the incident showed a wounded woman getting beaten up with hockey sticks, while people hurl abuses instead of coming to her rescue.

The Kashmiris alleged that they have been harassed for months and asked to vacate the neighbourhood. Alleging ‘constant harassment’, they said they were called “kashmiri ugrawaadi (extremist)”. A woman reportedly said many people kept assaulting them and making videos, while nobody came to help, adding, “We have asked for police protection.”

However, a neighbour named Sangeeta Tripathi alleged that the fight started because one of the Kashmiri men misbehaved with women in the area. Stating that she filed a complaint against him for molestation in December, the woman claimed that the man and his friends abused me and misbehaved. Tripathi also claimed that the Kashmiri woman self-inflicted injuries.
