According to reports, at least four children were killed on Thursday when a truck ran over them in Odisha’s Bhadrak district. Five others were grievously injured in the accident which took place near Rahanja village on the National Highway-16.

The children were returning home on bicycles from their school when the tragedy occurred. The seriously injured students were admitted to district headquarters hospital. Enraged over the incident, locals set fire to the truck which hit the children. The truck driver and cleaner had fled the site.

They demanded compensation to the families of the victims and action against the culprits. Since they blocked the road, hundreds of vehicles were stranded near the accident site. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
