Here's why the govt wants to block Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp

According to a report on the Economic Times, the government is mulling about blocking key social networking platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc, in a bid to weed out fake news as the country is poised towards the impending 2019 general elections.

In this regard, the report says that the Department of Telecommunications has already begun to make enquiries with stakeholders, telecom companies and internet providers.

However, the industry is yet to respond to this proposition.
