In a unique medical case in New Delhi, doctors had to remove 856 stones from a 45-year-old man's kidney in one go. The procedure performed by the doctors, called percutaneous nephrolithotomy is usually done to remove rectal stones.
Before the surgery, the patient's ultrasound had seemingly shown the presence of two large stones in his kidney. The doctors reportedly removed all the stones through a single 1cm puncture in one single operation that lasted for two hours. The patient was discharged the very next day of the operation.
According to a document submitted by the hospital, it is the first ever case in north India with the highest amount of kidney stones.
