A case has been filed against the Srinagar unit of Central Reserve Police Force after a CRPF vehicle ran over three people - one of them later succumbed to injuries at a hospital - in an attempt to escape protesters. Police registered the FIRs under charges of attempt to murder and rash driving.
Reportedly, a police officer said that the incident took place when the vehicle was returning after dropping a senior officer. A video of the incident reportedly showed people surrounding the vehicle while the driver tries to get away, while in another, people are seen throwing stones and bricks from close range.
The incident has sparked further protests and widespread criticism against the Centre while the Home Minister Rajnath Singh is due to visit the State. Meanwhile, the State’s National Conference party described the pictures of a man being run over by the vehicle “haunting”.
