Counting stops in Amethi as server crashes at the counting station; Congress president Rahul Gandhi trailing in Amethi but leading in Wayanad. Smriti Irani leading by 4,900 votes.

According to Times Now News report, for Rahul Gandhi, it is a big test to prove that Amethi remains a Congress stronghold despite inroads made by Smriti Irani. Rahul Gandhi's nomination as the party's candidate in Wayanad (Kerala) which is a Muslim-majority constituency has made many political rivals and commentators allege that he had sensed his slimming chances of victory in Amethi and therefore went for a back-up safe seat.

Rahul Gandhi, who apart from contesting from Uttar Pradesh is also contesting from a second seat in Wayanad in Kerala. While Wayanad may be an easy win for Rahul Gandhi, he faces a tough contest in Amethi.

Rahul Gandhi won his first election from Amethi with over 66 per cent votes.
