A special court in Jodhpur sentenced self-proclaimed godman Asaram to life imprisonment for the rape of a 16-year-old girl in 2013 on Wednesday. Following the verdict, Congress took to its official Twitter handle and posted a video of Asaram and Narendra Modi together with the caption, "A man is known by the company he keeps."
In response, some Twitter users tweeted a photo of Congress leader Digvijaya Singh with Asaram. Actor-director Farhan Akhtar tweeted asking users to stop sharing photos of Asaram with politicians and said that criticising politicians for associating with him before he was found guilty is not fair.
