The Centre recently announced that Aadhaar card is not mandatory to get a SIM card. According to reports, Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararjan has informed operators to immediately follow the directive so as to avoid confusion. Reportedly, alternative documents like driver's license and passport can also be used.
The Supreme Court took a call and clarified that Aadhaar is not required to get a SIM card. The move comes as a relief to NRIs and foreigners who may not have an Aadhaar card.
