The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the Cauvery water sharing dispute to May 14 due to the Karnataka Assembly elections. The apex court directed the Centre to submit the draft scheme for sharing the Cauvery river water on May 14. Union Water Resources Secretary has been summoned to appear in person in the court with the draft scheme.
The SC bench also reprimanded the Union government over its failure to implement its February 16 order and said it is in “sheer contempt”. Noting the delay in framing the draft scheme, counsel for Tamil Nadu Shekhar Naphade, in a veiled dig at PM Modi, said, “someone boasts that he works 24x7 for the citizens”.
