In the latest of developments in the race to form the government in Karnataka, the Supreme Court has reportedly refused to remove KG Bopaiah as the pro tem speaker of the Karnataka Assembly. Rejecting the plea by Congress and JD(S), the top court said it had no authority to direct on the appointment of pro tem speaker.

Ruling that Bopaiah will conduct the floor test in the Karnataka Assembly at 4 pm on Saturday, the apex court said that no other affairs except floor test should take place in the Assembly on the day. Further, the SC stated that all the media houses can live-telecast the proceedings in the State Assembly to ensure transparency.

Earlier, all the elected MLAs barring a few were taken to the State Assembly ahead of the trust vote. The elected candidates including Chief Minister Yeddyurappa and Congress stalwart Siddaramaiah took oath as MLAs in the presence of pro tem speaker KG Bopaiah.
