After Supreme Court observed midnight hearing, the BJP candidate for the Karnataka assembly election, BS Yeddyurappa took oath as Karnataka Chief Minister on Thursday.

The Congress, which had called Karnataka governor's invite "an encounter of the constitution", had argued that the BJP couldn't claim to have a majority unless the BJP triggers defections.

After the three-hour long late night hearing, a three-judge bench, comprising Justices AK Sikri, SA Bobde, and Ashok Bhushan, said: "As far as swearing-in is concerned, we are not restraining it, but we are making it subject to the outcome of the case."
