An ATM belonging to the Axis Bank in Nashik, Maharashtra, dispensed five times the cash the customers entered to withdraw. The assistant manager of the bank, Praveen Bhise, reportedly said that customers withdrew over Rs 2 lakh from the machine before the malfunctioning came to light.
Bhise alerted police after a customer named Amol Golait, who received five times the amount he sought to withdraw, informed him. Police rushed to the spot and stopped people from further withdrawing cash from the ATM, situated in Vijay Nagar in CIDCO area.
While Golait received Rs 20,000 while he entered only Rs 4,000 in the ATM’s interface, another customer got Rs 5000 instead of Rs 1000 that he sought. Bhise said that the bank will probe the matter and examine CCTV footages to find who else withdrew extra cash during the period of malfunctioning.
