A tea-seller was arrested by the Assam police on Thursday for raping and murdering two women in train toilets. Bikash Das had murdered the two women on two different trains to Assam within 24 hours.
Das was reportedly arrested on Thursday while he was searching for his third victim on the Jhajha-Dibrugarh Weekly Express. The accused was caught as the train was leaving Tinsukia railway station. According to the police, it was when the train left this station, Das had committed the previous two murders.
The similarities in the two murders led the police to know that both the crimes were done by the same man. In a span of 24 hours, two women were found dead in a semi-naked state inside train toilets on the same route to Assam. Both the women were killed by strangulation. The police had released a sketch of the accused based on the details provided by the first victim's mother.
Das's accomplice Bipin Kumar Pandey, who was on the run, was also arrested by the police. The police confirmed that during interrogation, Das confessed to committing the murders.
