According to reports, a bike-borne gang looted around Rs 38 lakh from a nationalised bank in Asansol in West Bengal on Wednesday. The Indian Bank on Sen Raleigh Road was located barely 200 metres from two police check posts. However, the gang of eight armed with pistols and daggers sped away unchecked.
The dacoits had arrived at the branch on two to three bikes around 1.30pm, beat up two civic volunteers posted outside and the entered the branch, police reportedly said. A bank employee reportedly said that the robbers snatched cell phones from three customers and seven bank employees. They also allegedly dragged a woman customer by her hair and forced her into a room.
They held the staff and customers at gunpoint, asked to keep their hands over their heads and warned not raise the alarm. The branch manager reportedly said that one of the dacoits came to him and snatched the keys while pointing a pistol at him.
