At least 18 construction workers, travelling in a truck from Karnataka’s Bijapur to a construction site in Pune, were killed as the truck overturned after ramming a barricade in Maharashtra on Monday. About 15 others were injured, while three among them are in critical condition. The driver could have ‘dozed off’ and lost control of the vehicle at the turn near Khambatki ghat on Mumbai-Bengaluru highway in Satara district, police reportedly said. The sharp and heavy equipment on the truck fell on the labourers when the vehicle overturned, Satara Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil reportedly said, adding, “Many of them died due to head injuries.”
