Vodafone's Future In Doubt; CEO Warns Government, Says Reports
Home > News Shots > Business newsThe British telecom giant Vodafone is said to have a doubtful future in India. Vodafone could be in doubt unless the government stopped hitting operators with higher taxes and charges in its first half.
Soon after the reports, Vodafone has told Indian authorities that it will not provide more capital unless there is a provision allowing it to compete with Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio.
The Vodafone CEO has faced enough in the Indian market being a major foreign investor in the country. He is also unhappy with several policy that have gone against and favoured Reliance Jio.
Earlier in the day, Chief Executive Nick Read said that he communicated to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government that it will not provide any more capital in India. Also, Vodafone, is scheduled to give its half year report by today.
"Either they should take their boots off the neck of the industry and allow it to better compete with Mukesh Ambani on 5G, or Vodafone Idea is destined for a potentially chaotic final act with potential repercussions for India's international standing," he said during a meeting as his main aim is to communicate to the government.
According to NDTV reports, Vodafone entered the market in 2007, since then it has gained billions of customers as well as earned much more.
Further commenting on the telecom operator's future in India, Vodafone CEO said "It's fair to say its a critical situation".
