According to reports, billionaire diamond jeweller Nirav Modi has fled to the United Kingdom, seeking political asylum. Reportedly, Modi could not be reached by Reuters for a comment and Britain's Home Office refused to provide information on the jeweller.
Modi is the prime accused in the Punjab National Bank scam. The two jewellery groups headed by Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi reportedly defrauded PNB of $2.2 billion.
According to Financial Times, Nirav Modi has fled to London to seek asylum from 'political persecution'. The Ministry of External Affairs has reportedly said that they are waiting for a response from law enforcement agencies before ordering an extradition.
