While the world I fighting the coronavirus pandemic, the demand for the rarest and largest diamonds has increased. The prices of investable diamonds have remained strong during this pandemic and is interesting buyers from Asia and the Middle East. A 102-carat diamond is all set to be auctioned.

The stone is a 102.39 carat Oval diamond which is expected to easily fetch $10 million to $30 million. It is the second largest oval diamond of its kind and there are only seven flawless white diamonds which are over a 100 carats. “One hundred-carat diamonds as a rule are exceedingly rare,” said Quig Bruning, head of Sotheby’s jewellery department in New York. “One hundred-carat D flawless are even more rare.”

According to Sotheby the diamond is “the size of a lollipop” will be sold on October 5, at Hong Kong in a live auction. The online bidders can begin their bids on Tuesday. If an online bidder wins, it will set a record for the most expensive piece of jewellery to ever be sold online.

“The retail experience — going into the store, trying things on — that’s gone right now, or at the very least has changed substantially. A lot of things have moved online, and we have been able to really capitalize on that by showcasing things in a new and compelling kind of way globally,” he added.
