10 Lakh IT Employees Found Unfit to Learn 3 New-Age Technologies!
Home > News Shots > Business newsAt a time when IT major Cognizant has decided to upskill 5000 senior employees from its global campuses, experts from the human resource and recruitment industry say that more than 1 million IT employees are unfit to learn new-age technologies.
Yeshab Giri, head (technologies and specialities), Randstad India said IT companies might fire the ones who cannot be reskilled and retrained when there is a need to trim the workforce. Technologies on the list include Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Machine Learning and more.
India's premier IT lobby NASSCOM has predicted that 40% of IT employees in India need reskilling in order to survive as Infosys and other firms have repeatedly indicated that they will not shy away from laying off employees to save cost.
Cognizant's Chief Financial Officer Karen McLoughlin said that the company is attempting to 'redefine the pyramid' by upskilling 5000 senior employees and then putting them back into the market.
Meanwhile, Cognizant is said to have lost a major content project from Facebook and that could lead to firing of 6000+ Indian employees. Indian IT Employee Unions have condemned the situation and are asking the government to intervene.
