Intel on April 2016 announced that it is planning to layoff 11 percent of the workforce in the company. According to reports, the number could be more than 12,000. The decline in the PC sales is said to be the reason behind this layoffs.
The New Jersey-headquartered software services company, Cognizant is reportedly planning to fire 6,000 employees. According to reports, digitisation and automation are said to be the reason behind this lay offs. Notably, Cognizant has most of its operations in Chennai.
In March 2016, International Business Machines Corporation a.k.a IBM announced that it is sacking 5000 employees. The declining revenue of IBM is said to be the reason for this layoff.
American tech giant, Microsoft in 2016 announced two significant job cuts. One in May and another one in July. In total, Microsoft has fired 4,700 employees in total. Notably, most of the fired employees are from smartphone division.
The Gurgaon-based AskMe.com on August 2016 let go 4000 workers after shutting down its operations.
