The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) this week released the top 10 best educational institutions in India.
Located in Bangalore, Indian Institute of Science was given the crown as the best educational institution in India in 2017. IISC was established in 1909 with the assistance from Jamsetji Tata and the Maharaja of Mysore.
Located in Chennai, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras was declared the second-best educational institution in India. The institute has nearly 550 faculties, 8,000 students and 1,250 administrative and supporting staff.
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay was ranked the third best educational institution by the Human Resource Ministry. Currently, IIT Bombay has a total of 14 academic departments, six centers, one school, and three interdisciplinary programs.
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, West Bengal also popularly known as IIT KGP was ranked fourth best in the list. Quick fact: IIT Kharagpur is the first of the IITs to be established.
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi popularly known as IIT Delhi or IITD was given the fifth place in the HRD Ministry's list. IIT Delhi was also ranked in the Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) list of top 200 universities globally in 2015.
Jawaharlal Nehru University popularly known as JNU was ranked sixth by the HRD. Established in 1969 by an act of parliament, JNU is known for its intense political life on campus.
The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh sits on the seventh place. Established in 1959, IIT Kanpur is one of the first Indian Institutes of Technology. Quick fact: The Institute has an office in New York.
HRD places Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Assam was in the eighth place. Located on the northern banks of Brahmaputra, IIT Guwahati spreads on 700 acres.
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Uttarakhand was ranked in the ninth spot. At present, IIT Roorkee has 21 academic departments including Engineering, Applied Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Management programs. Quick fact: IIT Roorkee was the seventh IIT to be declared.
Commonly referred to as BHU, Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh was ranked tenth in the list. Established in 1916 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, BHU is one of the largest residential universities in Asia, with over 20,000 students.
