The pro-jallikattu movement was a historic protest held by youths across Tamil Nadu demanding a lift of the ban on the bull-taming sport in January 2017.
Hasini, a 7-year-old girl from Kundrathur was raped and murdered allegedly by her neighbor Dashwant on February 5. The alleged rapist was released on bail after which he reportedly murdered his own mother.
The Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam who resigned his position as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu met reporters after meditating in J Jayalalithaa’s memorial On February 7. He alleged that he was forced to resign by VK Sasikala. He received support from various party members including senior member Maithreyan.
VK Sasikala, who was the General Secretary of AIADMK at that time, was sentenced to imprisoned for four years in the disproportionate assets case on February 14. This resulted in major changes in the politics of Tamil Nadu.
Following O Panneerselvam’s ouster from the party, various members supported him which eventually ended up in a trust vote in the assembly. Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami received the majority of votes, thus retaining his position as the CM. DMK working President Stalin's shirt was allegedly ton when DMK demanded to not to disclose the identity of voters.
Superstar Rajinikanth gave the first hint about his political entry. Durin his first fan meet, he said, “I will call you when there’s a war”. On December 26, while meeting his fans again, he said that he would give an official statement about his entry to politics. And on the last day of the year, Rajinikanth made his big announcement and said, "I will enter politics for sure". He also said that he will begin his own political party.

The faction of CM Edappadi Palaniswami and the faction of Deputy CM O Panneerselvam joined hands formally after the heads met and accepted to work together on August 21. Following the merger, TTV Dhinakaran, VK Sasikala, and many party members were ousted from AIADMK.
Medical aspirant Anitha, who stood against the medical qualification exam NEET, committed suicide on September 1 as she failed to clear NEET exam. Many protests broke after her suicide.
