The movie Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum is a romantic comedy entertainer that Mollywood has to offer for this Ramzan. Director Boban Samuel has joined hands with screenwriter Y V Rajesh intending to recreate the success of their 2013 Super-Hit Romans.
Kunchacko Boban, Jayasurya and Amala Paul portray the roles of a dashing young businessman, a local thug and a young girl with memory loss, respectively. Aju Varghese plays the role of an Army Major who intends to marry the young girl. Vijayaraghavan, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Rafi and Lena play the supporting roles in the movie.
Boban Samuel seems to have fallen off the track as he fails to rise up to the standards that he set for himself with his movie Romans. The first half is a bit lagging and many comedy sequences fail to generate laughter. The second half is promising when compared to the first half, with Jayasurya and Kunchacko having better scopes. There is plenty of room for improvement when it comes to the screenplay department. The script by Y V Rajesh, with some changes could have been more convincing. Yet there are some positives in the film that stand out, like the movie spoof scenes that guarantee entertainment.
Aju Varghese’s jokes might not live up to the expectation, but have performed decently. Suraj Venjarammoodu performs well throughout and director Rafi definitely deserves a special mention for his good acting. Cinematography by Anishlal R S and Music by Gopi Sunder are functional.
