ORU ADAAR LOVE (MALAYALAM) CAST & CREW

Production: Ousepachan Vaalakuzhy
Cast: Priya Prakash Varrier, Roshan
Direction: Omar Lulu

Oru Adaar Love was anticipated mainly because of the overnight sensation, Priya Prakash Varrier’s wink. As a movie with fresh faces, has Oru Adaar Love fared well as Valentine’s day special? Review below.

The movie is all about the life of a group of higher secondary school students. The lead characters are introduced at the very beginning. Most of the actors have performed their roles well for their debut film. Certain silly jokes, every now and then, and some scenes that revive school memories are less but good.

The music, for most of the time, delights us. All of the songs seem to have been forced and placed but the visualization, music, and choreography compensate for it. The movie looks fresh and colourful, thanks to the cinematography by Sinu Sidharth. These are all of the few good things that can be praised.

From the very first scene, romance blossoms between Priya and Roshan. From then on, whatever the director has intended to show as cute romantic scenes, fall short of romance and cuteness. Be it the cringing love a student grows towards his Zoology teacher, the instance where Roshan kisses Priya without her consent, the farewell and tour moments, the ‘accepting a senior’s love because of chocolate’ part, or even the scene where the boys talk about how only friendship lasts forever, all of them seemed force-fitted, unbearable, random and less interesting to be called a ‘storyline’.

The first half ends with Priya accepting Roshan’s love. You will be disappointed if you think the plot will begin at least in the second half. Gadha played by Noorin Shereef becomes the lead lady in the later part of the second half. She is one actress in the cast who has known her stance in the plot. Once we get clarity about who loves who, the story rushes to its climax.

The end that suddenly becomes tragic in an otherwise fun movie seemed bizarre. The attempted very tragic and disturbing last few moments do not create the impact it was expected to. This plot could have worked for the school students who watch the movie (if this is what is really happening in schools these days) but to the average age group of 25, it is very less engaging. Somewhere along the story, we begin to think if the director did really think this through.

The weaker storyline doesn't help you notice the debutant cast, that has performed well, the music director, who had good potential and the cinematographer who cannot be complained about.

Verdict: Oru Adaar Love fails to live upto the expectations mainly because of the weak story-line.
