Maradona- the title is enough to generate huge expectations for anyone who follows Malayalam cinema. When it is Young Star Tovino Thomas's first full-fledged Malayalam film after the highly appreciated Mayanadhi, the expectation is bound to hit the peak.

It is the story of Maradona, a local goon who is on-the-run. The movie has all the elements of a thriller and follows the conventional pattern of almost every movie that has a goon playing the protagonist. Thrill, fight, love, enlightenment, and suspense are the highlights of the film.

The direction is average in most parts, with few a sequences having good conviction like the climax. Unfortunately, the stunts, particularly the one in the climax is a huge let off as it is very unrealistic. The screenplay is like an off-road trip with highs and lows coming one after the other. The concept towards the final portion is a novel element which could have been included in the former part of the film. It would have given the film a fresh and innovative factor in its blood and flesh.

Tovino Thomas gives a decent performance as the protagonist but is overshadowed by the impact left by his previous performances. Tito Wilson and Chemban Vinod live their roles with conviction along with Jins Baskar and Leona Leshoy. Sharanya Nair plays Maradona's romantic interest and her performance keeps improving as time passes.

The cinematography and background score are the high points of Maradonna and they are highly responsible for the impact the film has on the viewer.
