KASABA MOVIE REVIEW

Kasaba, the most awaited Malayalam movie this Ramzan, is the Mammootty starrer directed by Nithin Renji Panicker, the son of veteran screenwriter/actor Renji Panicker. The movie has Mammootty, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sampath, Maqbool Salmaan and Jagadish in pivotal roles.

The expectation from the movie was too high as people expected the director to deliver exceptional on-screen magic like the kind his father had produced in combination with Mammootty. The debutant succeeds to keep the audience glued to their seats in spite of having many cliche elements in the screenplay. There is nothing new in the story, but the presentation is good and it shows that within a few years Nithin will definitely emerge as one of the best directors in Mollywood, provided he steps outside his father's film making style.

Mammootty's dashing looks and cool performance are the highlights of the movie, but his character suffers a moral dilemma throughout, making the viewer confused if he is a bad man or a good Samaritan. Varalakshmi's character is stuck with a template that most of the female negative characters have been portrayed previously which becomes very predictable. Maqbool's acting seems to have improved exponentially and needs a special mention. Every other artist including Sampath, Jagadish and Siddique perform convincingly.

The cinematography by Sameer Haq adds to the quality of the cinema. Rahul Raj's music fails to make an impact with an average BGM and doesn't sync well with the dialogues at most of the instances.

In a nutshell, the movie is a fun filled thrilling entertainer and will be well received by the youth. But the excessive usage of adult comedy might push back the female audience a little.
