STORYLINE OF THILOTHAMAA INSPIRED?

The trailer for Thilothamaa, starring Rachana Narayanankutty, and written and directed by debutant Preethi Panikker is out, and if we can go by the trailer, the storyline of the film sounds really similar to that of a classic Hollywood comedy film!

 

The basic premise of Thilothamaa revolves around the character of Rosy, essayed onscreen by Rachana, who is a singer at a posh 5-star hotel in town. Things take a rather dangerous turn when Rosy happens to witness a murder, and to her bad luck, the murderers spot her. What happens next forms the crux of the film.

 

Sounds familiar?

 

The plot mentioned above is quite similar to the classic Hollywood comedy film Sister Act, which had Whoopi Goldberg playing the lead dancer/nun character. The film came out in 1992, and was immediately recognized as a landmark comedy film. 

 

Thilothamaa seems to follow the same tangent as the English film, and the presence of nuns in the film just increases the speculation even more! Shot in and around Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Thodupuzha, Thilothamaa also stars Siddique, Manoj K Jayan, Sunil Sugatha, Edavela Babu, Sona Nair, Tesni Khan, Jeeja Surendran, Veena Nair, Surabhi, Leela Panicker, Kottayam Pradeep, and Sethulakshmi, among others. Deepak Dev has scored the music for the film.
