National award-winning director Jayaraj's film Ottaal, will be the first Malayalam film to have a simultaneous release both in the cinema halls as well as for download from the internet. With screenplay by Joshy Mangalath, the film is based on Russian author Anton Chekov's story Vanka. Set amidst the idyllic backwaters of Kerala, the film narrates the tale of a young boy and his relationship with his grandfather. The boy and the grandfather are all the family both of them have. The film apparently has Shine Tom Chacko playing a negative role of sorts.
Ottaal won the Kerala State Award for Best Film this year and the National Award for Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film was also selected to be screened in the Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India this year. Ottaal will release in theatres today (November 6) and will also be available for a direct download as the official social media page of the film announced:
