Anirudha Roy Chowdhury joins hands with Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang for this courtroom drama. Produced by Shoojit Sircar, and written by Ritesh Shah, the movie also has Piyush Mishra, Angad Bedi, Dhritiman Chatterjee, among others in important roles. Here’s how the case proceeded!
 

What is it about?
Superficially, the movie deals with a courtroom debacle between two parties, one of a politico’s son (Angad Bedi) represented by his lawyer (Piyush Mishra) and normal, working, independant, ultra modern group of friends who are women (Tapsee, Kirti and Andrea) represented by their lawyer Amitabh Bachchan. But in deep detail, it is a presentation of a tussle between the still unanswered modern feminist rights and the hardheaded, captivating rules placed by the society on its women.
 

What makes up the film?
The film travels right from the start with a group of guys trying to make Tapsee and her two roomies feel sorry for something that happened between them after a rock concert party. Soon, the police get involved,and the film slowly unravels the events of the night and the undercurrent of sensitivities of each character, through a classic courtroom drama. Perhaps the whole film can be summed up through a dialogue of Amitabh’s “She said no your Honour, and no means no - be it your friend, or girlfriend or wife.”
 

What works?
The cast and the sensitivities they represent through their characters. The screenplay written by Ritesh is a display of brilliance, making for an engaging, also humorous, sensible and eye opening courtroom drama. Stellar performance by every single actor in the film has made it worthy of applause. Music and visuals support sternly.
 

What doesn’t work?
Very little if any can be said as ‘doesn’t work’ in the film. The screenplay is crisp and  the technical presentation is perfect which means you should skip this part of the review.
 

Well?
Overall, the film is a tight slap to the society and provides the much-needed sense of liberation for it’s women audience for taking up their cause. But the strength of the film is still its plot and engagement. So hence, it becomes a must watch film. That is all, your Honour!
