Mission Mangal starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan has hit the big screens today and gets thunderous applause at the end. Written and directed by Jagan Shakti, who is a former assistant of director AR Murugadoss, Mission Mangal is jointly produced under the banners - Cape of Good Films, Hope Productions, and Fox Star Studios, the film also has Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menen, Dalip Tahil, Sanjay Kapoor amongst others in pivotal roles. Have a look at how this remarkable mission was launched!

What is it about?

The movie is basically all about the proud team Akshay Kumar (Rakesh Dhawan), Vidya Balan (Tara Shinde), Sonakshi Sinha (Eka Gandhi), Taapsee Pannu (Kritika Aggarwal), Nithya Menen (Varsha Pillai), Kirti Kulhari (Neha Siddiqui), Sharman Joshi (Parmeshwar) and HG Dattatreya (Ananth Iyer) who overcome their personal challenges and failures to serve as the important brains behind one of the greatest missions in history: the launch of India’s first satellite to Mars, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence.

What makes up the film?

The whole idea of Mission Mangal begins with the failure of GSLV Fat Boy which actually had to be aborted after its launch. Akshay who takes the entire blame for Vidya Balan’s mistake is pushed to the Mars Mission which other scientists consider it to be an Impossible mission. But when you have fiercely determined Akshay and Vidya Balan to chase their dreams nothing can be impossible!

Vidya Balan's undying enthusiasm and her blending skills of home-science and alternate science prove to be a perfect idea in many situations. While they are assigned with a team of junior scientists from ISRO with minimum budgets, the team determines to launch their mission within 24 months. What happens next will keep you on the edge of your seats!

What works?

Director Jagan Shakti, along with writers R. Balki, Nidhi Singh Dharma, and Saketh Kondiparthi has delivered the entire launch brilliantly. The director makes sure to keep everyone engaged by showing, the balance of the personal lives and the professional lives of the scientists and the risks they face. The film has a nail-biting end and the background music supports the genre perfectly, as it adds more depth to the happenings in the right chord. The VFX also has been designed convincingly, to give the audience an entertaining feel and as a whole, it has touched some of the right Bollywood flavours.

What doesn’t work?

With its engaging screenplay and apart from its exaggerated factors, to be honest, this film has very little as ‘does not work’ in the film. However, when success stories are made into a film, the predictability factor hits the engagement. There is a fight scene inside the metro train which seemed to be a little unnecessary at a point.

Well?

The film teaches one that one can achieve their dreams despite any ups and downs in life. With its emotional highs, one can’t help themselves but cheer up for the victory of an entire nation at the end seeing the scientists who had worked this hard celebrate! Mission Mangal is an ideal movie that makes a sure watch this Independence Day!
