As we know Conjuring series is an adaptation from the life stories of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Conjuring 1 & 2 and Annabelle 1 & 2 are the films to have released in this franchise. The fifth installment titled The Nun has released now. It is like the most expected horror films of the year. Now let’s see if The Nun manages to thrill us just like all its predecessors did?

The plot takes place in 1952, it follows a priest (Father Bruke) and a novitiate (Sister Irene) who hasn’t taken her final vows yet, together along with a stranger named called Frenchie try to uncover an evil mystery.

There is this cloistered abbey in Romania that is considered to be an unholy place. The body of a young nun is found in the abbey, that’s when The Vatican sends Father Burke to investigate the case who is accompanied by Sister Irene. Will they uncover the mystery without any trouble? Of course not, their struggles and what happens after that is what The Nun is all about.

The demonic nun Valak, who terrorized the audience in The Conjuring 2 is the main ghost in the film. Maybe because we are already used to the character, it doesn’t scare us anymore as much as it is intended to. That’s like the first and foremost issue that one might notice.

The Nun offers nothing new for a horror film lover, you get to see the template jumpscares, the sudden hand reaching out moments and pitch-black doorway scenes. That’s pretty much all the film shows you. It has very few scary moments, all placed towards the end. Apart from 1 or 2 decent thrill sequences, the first half had nothing exciting.

Technically, the film is sound in all department, the leads have also played their parts very well. But the director has relied more on the visuals and humour than the content or thrills which is quite strange.

Verdict: The Nun stumbles to deliver any terror!!! Less exciting film of the Conjuring series
