Sam Anton returns with his trademark action thriller genre after 100. In a way Trigger is an extension of 100 as the hero Atharvaa goes undercover to nab criminals.

Sam Anton once again comes up with a film which is engaging for most of its run-time. He manages to cleverly merge the plight of orphaned children with child trafficking which keeps us emotionally invested in the film. For Atharvaa it is yet another attempt to break out as an action hero after Kuruthi Aatam and to his credit he looks the part and is very smart on screen and he makes us root for him.

Arun Pandian is wonderful as the father with the haunted past. His turmoil and the bonding between Arun Pandian and Atharvaa works towards the end where there is a gratifying pay- off. A subdued performance with a lot of heart. Sita plays the doting mother and it is a cakewalk for her.

Five Star Krishna, Tanya Ravichandran and Munishkanth chip in with neat performances though all of them have limited screen time due to more focus on the action and the children. It was heartening to see Chinni Jayanth play a major role in the plot development. The constant banter between Azhagam Perumal and Atharvaa was enjoyable. The villain though is a bit of a caricature.

As far as action is concerned the film delivers big time. Dilip Subbarayan's stunt work elevates the film and provides enough fodder to the hero to showcase his action skills. The climax fight scene could have been trimmed though. It felt a little stretched out. The film could have benefited with crisper cuts.

Ghibran's music adds to the tension on screen. Krishnan Vasant's visuals make the film look stylish. These are the major highlights.

The film has a fine first half which ends on a rousing note. It is in the second half the film falters even as we the hero deals with a template villain. After a point the screenplay was predictable as you know what's coming. Letting go of the romance portion is another plus. That would have tested our patience.

Sam Anton does have the knack of keeping us glued despite the high and low points of the film. Much like 100 this one too works as a plausible action thriller. Another watchable fare from Atharvaa and Sam Anton combo.

Verdict: Trigger is a watchable action entertainer with a good social message.
