Debutant director Chachi's Sixer is a rare kind of film that is not afraid to mock at moments that are often treated seriously. The film's hilarious bit comes during the scene where Adhi (played by Vaibhav), a person suffering from night-blindness accidentally motivates the protesting crowd after they are intimidated by the villains. The lack of self-importance attached to the film is refreshing.

Sixer deals with the story of Adhi, an engineer suffering from night-blindness, as he gets in a tussle with a lecherous local politician due to a protest. The film starts in a breezy way, where the hero's disorder is utilized to the maximum. The humour is delivered consistently in the first half and Adhi's romance with Krithika (played by Palak Lalwani) is laced in between. The film's best moments come during the scenes involving Adhi and his father (Ilavarasu is a riot).

The first half has some ridiculous gags and Vaibhav plays to the gallery very well. The initial portions creates a generous amount of comedy at the expense of the film's villain KP (played by RNR Manohar) and his brother. Again, the lack of seriousness in portraying its antagonists is what sets Sixer apart.

Despite a humorous and less-indulgent first half, Sixer falters at its second half, where the organically-flowing humour is replaced by generic moments. The film forces needless comedy into the proceedings and without the presence of the villain (who appears very later in the final portions). The crass humour in the second half affects the tonality set by the film (an instance involves an awkwardly homophobic gag between Adhi and a stranger during a date with his girlfriend).

The film's humour benefitted much well due to the villain's presence (the scene where KP's brother barges into Adhi's house, only to be mistaken by his mother as a marriage broker, is hilarious). The nuttiness in the first half gets considerably reduced.Vaibhav gives a spirited performance as Adhi, but it is Ilavarasu and Sriranjini, whose performances as Adhi's parents deliver the most laughs. Actor Sathish plays the role of Adhi's friend and his presence adds more humour to the well-conceived stretches of the film (the protest scene is one such example). Due to a completely unfocused second half, Sixer works well in parts that mainly belongs to the first half.

Verdict: Sixer is a watchable comedy fare, that could have entertained beyond its humorous first half.
