Not many heroes have the luck of acting in a movie that features a legend like Kamal Haasan in a guest role. Kalidas Jayaram is a lucky man in that sense. But more gifted are those debutants whose first fare turns out to be a killer kickstart. Is Kalidas Jayaram bestowed with this luck too? Does Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanaiyum provide him with that fortune? Read more to find out.

Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanaiyum is a story about the relationship between a father and his son. What are the differences that arise between them? How do they solve those? Do they overcome these to understand each other is what forms the rest of the story?

The screenplay is dispersed with a few comic moments that work in patches. With a crux that revolves around father son relationship we are exposed to the regular dosage of the sentimental flow. The songs hinder the pace of the movie especially in the first half. The pre interval sequence is good and one might feel that the director could have taken lesser time to arrive at this portion. The cinematography somehow holds up but at places we feel it could have been better. A crisper editing might have trimmed out extraneous unwanted moments.

Kudos to the director for not only taking up a brave experimental venture but attempting his best to be sincere to it. He has made us think about and connect to the troubles that the father- son duo faces. Applauds to him for taking up such a template and trying to present it using an honest approach.

Prabhu proves his versatility and excels. Kalidas Jayaram is apt and he manages to do a decent job. The cameo by Kamal Haasan immediately sparks up the screen. Oorvasi, MS Bhaskar and others do what is expected of them.  A better attempt from Ashna Zaveri would have worked well.

Overall, Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanaiyum is a decent experiment that would have worked better if the director had focussed a tad more on the pace. The film requires a few patchworks here and there but it is still a fair attempt from a debut director.

Verdict: A decent experiment that could have worked well if the engagement was better.

Review by : Behindwoods Review Board
Album Release Date : May 28,2016

Meenkozhambum Mann Pannaiyum is an upcoming comedy flick starring Prabhu, Kalidas Jayaram and Ashna Zaveri in lead roles. Music for the film is composed by D.Imman.

Yellam Naadagam Yendrayo
Singer: Shankar Mahadevan
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

The album begins on an emotional note with a riveting flute prelude leading to the power packed vocals of Shankar Mahadevan. The typical Imman’s string section paves it way perfectly for a sentimental start. Madhan Karky’s heart wrenching lyrics are perfectly justified with flute’s appearance throughout and compelling chorus effect. The charanams speak of philosophy and introspecting in the so called musical way and the song touches the delicate realms of Carnatic Raaga Simhendramadhyamam throughout.

Hey Puthrajaya Poove
Singers: Jithin Raj, Sunitha Sarathy
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

On the contrary, a trendy alternative rock number with stylish vocals of Jithin and Sunitha arrive next. The energetic drumming and electric guitar does the job flawlessly with no mistakes. The song gets an international look with near to perfect changeovers in the bass work and chord progression. However, there is little scope for experimentation for the tune as it is quite straightforward. The first interlude strikes a balance between Far East bliss and Western Rock.

Athe Nila
Singers: Sathyaprakash, Shashaa Tirupati, Elfe Choir
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

To the listener’s surprise, a laid back jazzy choir number arrives in almost a jiffy. Sathyaprakash’s sweet vocals and the perfect support of choir vocals, dew drop acoustic guitar and riveting changeovers in the chord progression is a treat to hear. The celtic styled strings is another biggest highlight of this amazing composition. One of the memorable experimental attempts by Imman!

Wako Wowra
Singers: Neha Bhasin, Varun Parandhaman
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

A stylish and Jazzy number fused with Hip-Hop beats strikes quite effectively next. The thumping electric guitar and sequencing does the job mesmerizingly but it is Neha Bhasin’s sultry vocals which takes the front seat admirably. The strings have a tinge of Arabic flavor surprisingly which gives a new dimension to this upbeat number. Madhan Karky’s lyrics focus on contemporary flavours and trendiness.

Meenkulambum Manpanayum Theme
Instrumental

The finale arrives in style with a feisty theme track with optimistic trumpets and timely riffs. The song also has teasing voice over which justifies the theme and effectively fused with Rap as well. A fitting ending to a fun filled album!

Verdict: Meenkozhambum Mann Pannaiyum is a stylish album from D.Imman with right dose of melodies and trendy numbers.
