KGF Chapter 1, starring Yash and Srinidhi Shetty in the lead roles is a Kannada film directed by Prashanth Neel. The film is dubbed into Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and other languages and is the most hyped Kannada film till date. The Tamil version of the film is distributed by Vishal Film Factory.

The film has a very interesting premise. A man named Rocky (Yash) wishes to die rich and powerful because that is his mother's last wish. We hear this story from a journalist(Anant Nag) who has written a book about Rocky.

Being a commercial potboiler, the way Prashanth Neel has packaged KGF certainly deserves applause. Yash as Rocky single-handedly carries the film on his shoulders. His 'mass' image doesn't get reduced anywhere in the 2.5-hour thriller. The rest of the cast too play their parts well.

One of the major highlights of the film are the dialogues. Most of the dialogues compliment Yash's image and film's mood as well. Being a Tamil dubbed film, at no point do we get a feeling that something is odd. Every line uttered has been handled with care and precision.

The cinematography isn't out of the world in the Mumbai portions. But the portions in Kolar Gold Field are in total contrast to the Mumbai ones. We get transported to the land of Kolar, and become a part of the location.

The background score is decent enough to make it a good cinematic experience. However, few moments of silence could have certainly made it better. At 155 minutes, it could have been a bit crisp, but the third act of the film is pulsating enough to make us sit on the edge of the seats. If you blink, you miss. That is the pace with which the final 40 minutes progresses.

On the whole, KGF is the Kolar Gold Field... filled with pieces of gold here and there. The stage has been set for the second part with great expectations. With films like this, Kannada cinema has gone up one notch higher.
