Devi 2 is director Vijay’s sequel to the 2016 horror comedy Devi that had Prabhu Deva, Tamannaah, Sonu Sood in the lead roles. Has Devi 2 come off as a perfect sequel and offered a fun, thrilling ride to the audiences? Read to know more.

Devi 2 picks up from the phase where even after Krishna has a girl child with Devi, he still finds it hard to hide the past from Devi that she was once possessed by a spirit named Ruby. He chooses Mauritius as a place to live for a while so that Ruby cannot reach them.

The movie’s biggest problem is that it keeps getting random and no character that tags along with it makes much sense. The narration is either slow paced or confusing which makes us lose grip on the film. The story only focuses on bringing two ghosts into the plotline and nothing else.

The radical difference between Devi 2 and its predecessor is that the latter had novelty, interesting horror sequences and a new approach towards a horror comedy. Devi 2 fails here, in the motive of bringing nostalgia from Devi in the script, it only becomes easily predictable and out of order.

Prabhu Deva, Tamannaah are good performers, no doubt, but there is not much for them to do as the core story is less interesting. Kovai Sarala is in her comfort zone and does what she is offered with, but that is it. All three of them try and bring out some comedy elements into the script. The film lacks the emotions, drama, and entertainment its former had and hence there are a lot of disappointments.

The motive of the ghosts, their backstories, the characters that are played by Nandita, Dimple Hayati and Ajmal lacks depth and fail to connect with the audiences. They are only helpful in the folk duet between the three of them.

The cinematography has tried its best to show Mauritius and our characters stylish and beautiful. The music has offered very negligible support to the story and the songs aren’t very interesting. The stunt sequences are decently choreographed.

The story moves plot-less just like how Sonu Sood and RJ Balaji walk into the script to give a connect from Devi. RJ Balaji appears only in 3 scenes and scores well his expressions. With more interesting story, a convincing back stories to justify the ghosts, more thrill in horror and better comedy scenes could have made Devi 2 a better watch.

Verdict: 'Devi 2' is let down by the weak storyline and less engaging screenplay.
