More or less every year, India sends one film as its official entry into the Oscars in the Best Foreign language Film category. 

Out of all the years, only Mother India, Salaam Bombay, and Lagaan have been nominated in the categories thus far. 

The official entry into the Oscars this time would be the Assamese film Village Rockstars directed by Rima Das. The film has already raised eyebrows after premiering in the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017. 

It has won various National Awards this year and the director has now taken to Twitter to share has excitement about being the film to be sent this year. 

Her tweet read, "With tears of joy and a feeling of pride, I humbly accept this news. #VillageRockstars is India's official entry for the #Oscars ! Let that sink in 😃"
