AR Rahman’s Aalaporaan Tamizhan single song for Vijay and Atlee’s Mersal is out. The song seems to be a combination of various genres well knitted by the oscar winner with some feisty instrumentation and superior vocals.
Right from the start when the folk based beats flow in, there is the use of a grand chorus portion throughout. The Nadhaswaram portions guarantee a connect and nativity feel. Lyrics by Vivek have been pumped with words fantasising the Tamizhan and his tradition. The entire song seems to be very well structured and attracts the listener within a couple of listens. Especially the vocals that hit the high peak portions are impressive just as in most ARR songs.
Sung by Deepak, Kailash Kher, Sathyaprakash and Pooja, the various singers have been picked to provide numerous dynamics for the single. The song is sure to give a nostalgic feeling to those who have been AR Rahman followers since the 1990’s. Kailash Kher’s vocals in specific take the vocal section to an enjoyable peak and seems to blend well with the variations provided by the other singers.
Be it the folk beats, the indigenous instruments, the melodious portion delivered by Pooja or the native percussions, the song has a lot to offer. It is not an out and out mass number that is centred by folk elements but serves to be a song rich in a lot of aspects. With Rahman’s chords haunting the listener, Aalaporaan Tamizhan is an overall delight for both his fans and for fans of actor Vijay.
