Sixty-seventh National awards for 2019 were announced earlier in the day. Asuran, directed by Vetrimaaran, bagged the Best Film while Dhanush shared the Best Actor title with Manoj Bajpayee. D Imman was given the Best music director award for his score for Ajith’s Viswasam.
Speaking about the honour, Vetrimaaran called it an added achievement since the film had already given him what he wanted – box office success and discussions around caste. Producer Thanu said that 30 years back, veteran director and cinematographer Balu Mahendra, had gotten him the National award for Vanna Vanna Pookal and his disciple Vetrimaaran has followed it up with another.
He said that when he saw the first copy itself, he knew the film would perform commercially well and lap up awards as well. He ended his speech by saying that the credit of the film bagging two awards went to the captain of the ship – Vetrimaaran. Watch their bites below.
