Suriya's intense courtroom drama 'Jai Bhim' directed by TJ Gnanavel was released on November 2 on popular OTT platform Amazon Prime Video and has been receiving tremendous positive responses from fans and critics alike. It has also stirred several impactful debates for its stand against oppression and casteism.
'Jai Bhim' is based on a true incident that happened in 1995. It throws light on how popular advocate and judge Justice Chandru who went beyond the call of duty to ensure that justice is served to Irular Tribe Community, specifically to Sengani, who's husband gets wrongfully convicted in a theft case and suffers custodial torture by the police. Apart from Suriya, the film features Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Rajisha Vijayan, Manikandan, and Lijomol Jose in pivotal roles.
Within a few hours of its release, many celebrities and fans took to their respective social media handles to praise this thought-provoking and hard-hitting film. The movie has Lijomol Jose and Manikandan playing the Irular Tribe couple Sengani and Rajakannu.
The Suriya-starrer movie has undoubtedly become people's favourite. So much so, that the movie has now beaten Hollywood classic 'Shawshank Redemption' to become one the highest-rated IMDb movie. 'Jai Bhim' currently has an IMDB rating of 9.6 and has become the first Tamil film to achieve this praise-worthy feat.
It is to be noted that while the movie has received more than 70,000 votes from the public, 'The Shawshank Redemption' has got more than 24 lakh votes. The third in the list is the ever-popular 'The Godfather' which has an IMDB rating of 9.2 with 17 lakh plus votes. Earlier, Suriya's 'Soorarai Pottru' which was released last year directly on Amazon Prime Video was also applauded by many. It currently has an IMDB rating of 9.1.
