The State Government of Tamil Nadu had earlier imposed a 30% Entertainment tax over the 28% GST for films in Tamil Nadu. After a prolonged strike by Tamil film industry, the state government at temporarily kept the Entertainment tax system on hold.

But the latest reports that are coming doesn't sound good for the theatre owners. Chennai Corporation has started issuing notices to theatres for Entertainment tax in addition to GST.

According to the revised rule, 10% will be charged for Tamil films and 20% for non-Tamil movies. The municipal taxes will be levied with effect from 27th September.
