Recently, Musician Hip Hop Thamizha Adhi posted a statement on his Official twitter handle, without any context. His Tweet read “Thought for the day: ஊன்றி பிழைக்காதே! ஆம், ஒருவரின் உழைப்பை ஏளனம் செய்து அதில் நீ சேர்க்கும் பணமோ, புகழோ நிலைக்காது. ஒருவர் முன் மண்டியிட்டு அவரை ஊன்றி ஊன்றி நீ பிழைக்கும் போது உன் முட்டி தேய்ந்து போவது மட்டுமல்ல, சூழ்நிலை சரியில்லை என்றால் உடைந்தும் போகலாம் ✌🏻” (“The growth you earn by mocking or defaming someone’s work won't last long. It might also backfire against you someday”)
Although he did not mention anything in this Tweet, many of his followers interpreted that Aadhi supposedly took a dig at Stand-up Comedian Jagan Krishnan, who recently made a small set which had Aadhi’s song in it. Many users tagged Jagan in this tweet and surprisingly, he retweeted Aadhi’s Tweet.
In an exclusive Interview with Behindwoods, Jagan and Mervyn spoke about the Stand-up scene in the city and how they themselves handle negativity. When asked about Hip Hop Thamizha’s tweet, Jagan said “Well, I don’t know if it was directed at me. I retweeted it because I liked the message it had. Only Hip Hop Aadhi can answer the question as to why he posted that. Many people tagged me, and I don’t know why. Maybe it was coincidental, but only he can answer that.”
On handling negativity and criticism, Jagan and Mervyn said “Today, it is hard to say or do something. People get offended for something else from your statement or joke, which you had no intent in conveying. We get criticism from all angles after all our shows. Some are good and constructive, while some are abusive. We just have to grow through it. At our level, this is how we handle negativity. At the Industry level, they are people who have already proven their worth to the larger audience and I guess they will know how to handle criticisms.”
