Vijay's latest film Sarkar hit the screens on Diwali day, that is November 6. The movie had Keerthy Suresh as the female lead while Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Pala Karuppiah and Radha Ravi had important supporting roles.
Directed by AR Murugadoss, and bankrolled by Sun Pictures, Sarkar had strong political scenes and dialogues, some of them reflecting the political nature of the country at present. Following that, the cadres of a specific party in Tamil Nadu went on to tear banners of the film in theatres, and asked for specific scenes to be cut out.
This has resulted in wide protests across the city. The police have also been involved and they were spotted at AR Murugadoss' house yesterday. Talking about this issue, producer SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures, who has produced films like Aruvi, Joker, Maanagaram, Theeran Adhigaram Ondru etc., took to Twitter to write:
"தணிக்கை செய்த படங்களை சர்ச்சைக்கு உள்ளாக்குவது எல்லாம் விளம்பர கணக்கில் தான் சேர்கிறது! அதுவும் இலவச விளம்பரம் 😬
#சர்க்கார் #Sarkar"
The tweet roughly translates to "Creating controversy out of scenes approved by the censor board, comes under publicity for the film. That too free publicity."
